72.1% of Spaniards claim to be informed about current events

The CIS has carried out a study on social media audiences and on the behavior and use that citizens make of the media. According to this study, 72.1% of Spaniards have stated that they are “a lot or quite” informed, on the contrary, 19.5% have stated that they are “a little or not at all”.

The media that citizens use the most to obtain information are television in first place with 69.8%, the press -whether in printed or digital format- with 55.1%, and, in third place, and ahead of the radio, social networks with 44.1%. Radio is the medium chosen by 43.5% of Spaniards to get information.

Regarding the trust that Spaniards have in the media, radio is the one that produces the most trust in citizens, since 55.5% have assured that they have “a lot or quite a lot” in this medium, 53.2% In the press, television falls to third position and is the one that deserves the most trust by 41.2% and only 15% believe that social networks deserve “a lot or quite a lot of trust”. Press

56.3% have stated that they read a newspaper regularly, while 43.6% do not. The most cited newspaper is El País (10.1%), followed by El Mundo (5.1%) and La Vanguardia in third place with 3.1%. ElDiario.es is the most cited digital with 2.7%.

Regarding the frequency of reading, 60.3% stated that they read the aforementioned newspaper “every or almost every day”, 15.8% “two or three times a week” and 13.6% “four or five times a week”. days a week.” As for how they get the aforementioned newspaper, 21.5% of those who claim to read a newspaper have a subscription, 13.5% buy it and 49.7% read digital subscriptions that have no cost.

And regarding the confidence they have in the newspaper they usually follow, 82.2% of Spaniards have “a lot or quite a lot” about that newspaper.

Television

67.2% of Spaniards regularly follow the news programs that are broadcast on television networks. And they usually do so on Antena 3, which is the most chosen channel to follow news programs with 18.7%, TVE in second place with 16.1% and La Sexta with 8.5%.
Regarding the frequency with which they watch news programs on the aforementioned network, 67% have stated that “every or almost every day”, 16.9% “four or five days a week” and 10.6% % "two or three times a week".
Regarding trust, 80.2% have “a lot or quite a lot” in the television network they mentioned.

Radio

61.3% of citizens have indicated that they regularly listen to a radio station, while 38.6% have stated that they do not. Cadena SER is the radio station that is listened to the most for information with 17.2%, COPE is the most listened to by 11% and Onda Cero by 7.3% of respondents. Radio Nacional is chosen for 3.7%.
56.5% stated that they listen to the aforementioned radio station “every or almost every day”, 19.8% “four or five days a week” and 13.9% “two or three times a week”.

And regarding the trust Spaniards have in the news from the aforementioned radio, 89.8% have stated “a lot or quite a lot”, only 6.9% have answered “little or nothing”.

Social networks

54.9% of Spaniards use social networks to obtain information. While 44.9% did not. The device they mainly use is the mobile phone (94.7%), followed by the laptop with 20.4% and the tablet with 14.5%.
Regarding the frequency with which they enter social networks, 84.4% “every or almost every day”, 6.2% “four or five days a week”, and 4.1% “two or three times”. per week.”

Instagram is the most used social network (30.7%), in second place, Facebook with 26.2% and Twitter in third position with 23.5%. Tik Tok is used by 8.3% and YouTube by 6.4%.

These and other data are collected in the study on social media audiences that was carried out from October 18 to November 16 and has a large sample of 27,433 interviews.
