CIS presents "Sociología económica" by Alejandro Portes at Málaga University
Madrid, 14 March Thursday, 13 March at 12:00, in the Graduation Hall of the Faculty of Economics and Business Science at Málaga University, marked the presentation of the book "Sociología económica: una investigación sistemática" (Economic Sociology: A Systematic Investigation), published by the Centre for Sociological Research (CIS), as a new addition to the collection "Clásicos Contemporáneos" (Contemporary Classics).
The book was presented by a panel including Eugenio J. Luque Domínguez, Dean of the Faculty, Félix Requena Santos, Chair Professor at Málaga University and Chairman of CIS, Macarena Parrado Gallardo, Deputy Dean for Teaching Support and Communications at the Faculty, Luis Ayuso Sánchez, Doctor of Sociology from Granada University and Professor in the Faculty of Economics and Business Science at Málaga University, and the author, Alejandro Portes, Professor of Sociology at Princeton and Miami Universities.
Sociología económica: una investigación sistemática; is a classic work by Alejandro Portes, representing some of the most important contributions he has made to the field throughout his career. The work contributes to the acceptance of economic sociology at the institutional level and consolidates its turn towards new approaches which may lead to a breakthrough in the discipline.
Alejandro Portes is presently a Professor of Sociology at the Universities of Princeton and Miami. His published work includes: City on the Edge: The Transformation of Miami (1983), Immigrant America: A Portrait (1996), Legacies: The Story of the Immigrant Second Generation (2001) and Ethnicities: Children of Immigrants in America (2011). Due to both his thinking and his work, Portes may be the most important Spanish-speaking sociologist of this generation, and one of the most influential in his analysis of migrations and the economic sociology of the early 21st century.
