Madrid, 8 November.- The Centro de Investigaciones Sociológicas (CIS) is to present its recent publication Elecciones Generales 2008, a work which looks at the parliamentary general elections held in Spain in March 2008.

Taking CIS surveys as a source of information, its various chapters examine issues such as the election campaign, voter turnout and the use of the Internet. The work likewise studies both the impact of the so-called crispación (tense, confrontational atmosphere) on voting and the effect of the electoral debates, including the scope of tactical voting and the influence of religion, ideology or nationalism, among other aspects. It also considers the importance of the political leaders and the characteristics of the party system, in addition to addressing the special case of the regional elections in Andalusia, which were held simultaneously.

The authors, who are experts at renowned universities and research centres, combine sophisticated analysis using advanced statistical techniques with a use of language that is accessible to non-specialist readers. All of this makes this book essential reading for gaining an awareness of what is happening in political life in Spain today.
