Inés Alberdi receives the Spanish 2019 Sociology and Political Science National Award
- The Professor of Sociology at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid is a pioneer in studies related to Gender and Family Sociology Madrid,
4 December 2019. The Professor of Sociology at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid, Inés Alberti, received the 2019 Sociology and Political Science National Award after a career of more than 40 years.
Alberdi is a pioneer in Gender Sociology in Spain and has led projects on different matters, such as“Family and Work”, "Family Violence in Spain", " The Transition for Women. History of Feminism in the Seventies", "The Social Status of Widows" or "The Impact of Divorce on the Spanish Family".
She worked as the Executive Director of UNIFEM, the United Nations Development Fund for Women, for the period 2008-2011 in New York. She was also the Director of the Spanish Sociological Research Centre (1991-1993).
She has written 20 books and has collaborated in many pioneering publications in her area of expertise that have been the subject of references, reprints and reproductions by different media.
She also held a position as Associate Researcher at the George Washington University in the United States, where she worked on a program on ‘Women and Public Politics’ (1988-1989), and as Visiting Scholar in the Department of Sociology at Georgetown University (US). (1978-1980)
She cooperated with the Ministry of Justice in the preparation and drafting of the reform of the Spanish Civil Code on Family and Divorce in 1981, and served on the Board of Directors of the United Nations International Research and Training Institute for the Advancement of Women (UN-INSTRAW) (1986-1989).
As a public recognition of her contribution, she has received the following awards and prizes: Ad Honorem Member of the Association of Women Researchers and Technologists in 2017; Encomienda de Número (Commander by Number) of the Order of Isabella the Catholic, awarded by the King of Spain in 2012; 2012 Rosa Manzano Award; 2010 Alumni Association Award of the Universidad Complutense; and Silver Medal of Mexico City in 2008.
The jury of this award was formed by the president of the CIS, the Professor of Sociology José Félix Tezanos; the Professor of Sociology of the Universidad Rey Juan Carlos, Alfonso de Esteban Alonso; the Dean of the Faculty of Political Science and Sociology of the Universidad Complutense de Madrid, Esther del Campo García; the Professor of Political Science at the Universidad Nacional de Educación a Distancia, Irene Delgado Sotillos; the Professor of Sociology María Ángeles Durán Heras; the Professor of Sociology at the Universidad Nacional de Educación a Distancia, María Rosario H. Sánchez Morales; the Professor of Sociology at the Universidad Carlos III de Madrid, Constanza Tobío Soler; and the Professor of Sociology at the Universidad Complutense, María José Mateo Rivas.
