Ines Alberdi

The Professor of Sociology at the Complutense University of Madrid is a pioneer in studies related to Gender and Family Sociology Madrid.

December 4, 2019. The Professor of Sociology at the Complutense University of Madrid, Inés Alberdi, has received the 2019 National Prize for Sociology and Political Science after a professional career of more than 40 years.

Alberdi is a pioneer in Gender Sociology in Spain and has led projects associated with topics related to “Family and Work”, "Bad treatment in the family in Spain", "The transition of Women. History of feminism in the seventies" , "Social situation of widows" or "The impact of Divorce on the Spanish Family."

She was Executive Director of UNIFEM, United Nations Development Fund for Women , during the period 2008-2011 in New York. She was also Research Director of the Center for Sociological Research (1991-1993).

She is the author of 20 books and has collaborated on many pioneering publications in her area of expertise that have been the subject of references, reissues and reproductions by various means.

She has also been a researcher at George Washington University in the United States, where she worked on a program on 'Women and public policies' (1988-1989), and a visiting professor at the Department of Sociology at Georgetown University, United States. (1978-1980)

She collaborated with the Ministry of Justice for the preparation and elaboration of the Reform of the Civil Code on Family and Divorce during 1981 and was part of the Board of Directors of the International Institute for the Advancement and Training of Women, INSTRAW, of the United Nations (1986 -1989).

As public recognition of her contribution, she has received the following prizes and awards: Ad Honorem Member of the Association of Women Researchers and Technologists 2017, Commendation of Number of the Order of Isabel la Católica, awarded by the King of Spain in 2012, Rosa Manzano Award 2012, Complutense University Alumni Association Award 2010 and Silver Medal from Mexico City in 2008.

The jury for this award was made up of the president of the CIS, the Professor of Sociology José Félix Tezanos, the Professor of Sociology of the Rey Juan Carlos University, Alfonso de Esteban Cano, the Dean of the Faculty of Political Sciences and Sociology of the Complutense University of Madrid, Esther del Campo García, the Professor of Political Science at the National University of Distance Education, Irene Delgado Sotillos, the Professor of Sociology, María Ángeles Durán Heras, the Professor of Sociology at the National University of Distance Education Distance, María Rosario H. Sánchez Morales, the Professor of Sociology at the Carlos III University of Madrid, Constanza Tobío Soler and the Full Professor of Sociology at the Complutense University, María José Mateo Rivas.
