68.7% of Spaniards believe that the State should intervene in the economy

The CIS has carried out the third survey on social trends in which citizens are asked about issues such as equality, work automation, the role of the State in the lives of Spaniards or the political and social future in 10 years. , among other topics.

In general terms, 59.8% of people are “very or quite” interested in political issues, compared to 17.3% who answered that they are “little or not at all” interested. 22.3% do not feel special interest. These data reflect an increase in interest in political issues in Spain of 10.2 percentage points since 2021, when the percentage of Spaniards who were interested in politics “a lot or quite a bit” was 49.6%.

Regarding the political decisions made during the last two years - such as voting, not voting or demonstrating for something - 40.7% state that they have been influenced by the actions of a candidate or candidates, 22.4% social networks and 21.3% a specific person from the family or friends.

The role of the State in economic life

68.7% of those surveyed understand that the State should intervene in the economy, while 23.15 answered no. 3.2% affirm that it depends on economic conditions, and 1.9% have doubts.

Of those surveyed who favored intervention, 82.9% stated that "it should only intervene in certain sectors of public interest and setting general guidelines", on the contrary, 14.2% stated that "it should direct and plan all activities." economic”.


Promote equality

57.6% of Spaniards believe that more importance should be given in our society to promoting equality and solidarity between people, while 33.6% have indicated that more importance should be given to “making it possible for each "Whoever reaches the highest he can with his effort and his work."

If we compare the data with the previous two years, the evolution of people who believe that it is necessary to promote equality has a downward trend, since in 2021 there were 62.7% of the total number of people who were in favor of this and in 2022 has already dropped to 60.7%.

On the contrary, the evolution of thinking about individual effort is increasing, which has increased 7.3 points since 2021, when 26% opted for this option.

 

 

Approved for the 1978 Constitution

Regarding the trust generated among citizens by certain organizations and institutions, the Spanish Constitution is the favorite for Spaniards, with an average score of 6.59, being the only one they approve of. Justice is in second place with a 4.98, the Spanish Parliament reaches a 4.35, the media a 4.12, the Government achieves a 3.99, and parties and unions a 3.82.

In 10 years…

70.3% of Spaniards understand that there will be “many or quite a few changes” social and economic. 39.1% estimate that these changes will be positive, while 35.4% affirm that they will be “negative or very negative.”

When asked about the global influence of countries, 72.2% affirm that China will have more than now, the same as the Arab Countries, since 47.2% assure that its influence will increase. Regarding the European Union, 35% indicate that it will have more than now, 31.1% the same and 30.4% less than now.

Regarding the future of work automation, 81.5% of Spaniards think that the number of robots and automatic systems will increase a lot or a lot in the next ten years.

Furthermore, 45.7% indicate that the use of these robots will lead to an increase in unemployment. On the contrary, only 16.1% affirm that it will lead to the creation of more jobs.


These and other data are collected in the survey on social trends that was carried out from October 24 to 31 and has a sample of 4,121 interviews. It is available to all media on the website of the Center for Sociological Research (www.cis.es).
