The Fundación Española para la Ciencia y la Tecnología (FECYT) has awarded the Revista Española de Investigaciones Sociológicas (REIS) the Certificate of Excellent Journal after having successfully passed the quality assessment process for Spanish scientific journals carried out by said foundation.

In consecutive and eliminating phases multiple editorial quality indicators were analysed, such as peer review, established in its regulations; the absence of author endogamy, or the existence of an editorial committee, as well as the percentage of original material in the content published, amongst others. Likewise, the scientific quality assessment evaluated the objectives, scope and contribution to the area of study to which the journal belongs, as well as the importance of the databases in which it is indexed and the impact on its field.

Present in the most prestigious international citation indexes, such as the Social Science Citation Index and Scopus, the REIS continues to lead the cumulative historical impact indexes for 1994-2009 and 2000-2009, according to IN-RECS. It is currently the only Spanish social sciences journal present in the JSTOR repository of scientific journals and the second most downloaded on DIALNET, repository containing journals from all areas of study.
