89.7% of Spaniards believe it is necessary for political parties to reach State pacts

  • According to the latest CIS current affairs survey from April 2022, 92.2% of citizens say they "rather agree" that parties have the obligation to reach consensus on important issues
  • 94.2% believe that it is "very important or quite important" that a consensus be reached on the price of energy
  • And 79.2% are "very or quite concerned" about political tension

Madrid, May 11, 2022 . The Sociological Research Center has carried out a survey on current issues in which it asked about issues such as State pacts and the need to reach agreements in politics, tension, the war in Ukraine and climate change.

Regarding the importance of agreeing on State pacts on key matters , 89.7% believe that it is "very important or quite important" for political parties to reach pacts on key matters in national politics. 92.2% say they "rather agree" that parties have the obligation to reach consensus on important issues.

Among the aspects that Spaniards believe the parties should agree on as a priority is the price of energy . 94.2% consider it "very important or quite important" that there be a consensus on this issue. 90.4% ask for agreements on the energy transition and 90.2% believe that it is "very important or quite important" for the parties to reach an agreement on the management of European funds.

Most voted list

This survey also asks whether the party that obtains the most votes and seats should govern, with 70.1% of Spaniards over 18 years of age agreeing with this criterion, while 24.3% do not agree.

It should be noted that 52.4% think that a certain premium of deputies or seats should be awarded to the electoral force with the most votes, as is done in other countries, in order to facilitate governability.

40.1% of the population is "very concerned that there is political tension in Spain" and 39.1% is quite concerned (79.2% in total).

Climate change

Regarding the climate, 89.1% believe that we are witnessing climate change compared to 8.2% who deny it, with 81.1% of Spaniards being "very or quite concerned" about this issue.

The data from this survey carried out between April 26 and 29, with a sample of 2,357 interviews, are available to all media and interested people on the website of the Center for Sociological Research (www.cis.es).
