Madrid, February 8, 2013: on Tuesday, February 12 at 7:00 p.m., at the Zurbano Palace (Zurbano 7), Their Majesties the King and Queen will present Professor Juan Díez Nicolás with the 2012 National Prize for Sociology and Political Science in recognition of a track record of professional and academic excellence.

The event will be attended by the Vice President of the Government and Minister of the Presidency, Soraya Sáenz de Santamaría and the President of the CIS, Félix Requena Santos.

Juan Díez Nicolás is an emeritus professor of Sociology at the Complutense University of Madrid. He was co-founder of the Institute of Public Opinion. Technical director, Secretary general (1963-69) and President of the CIS (October 76 - April 79). He has received numerous honors and decorations such as the “Diego Saavedra Fajardo” Research Award and the Commendation of Civil Merit, among others. He has directed a multitude of empirical investigations and is the author of numerous scientific publications. He is recognized by all as an intellectual committed to the times in which he lived, whose crucial role in the institutionalization of sociology in Spain is valued by the academic community and, in particular, is considered one of the main promoters of Spanish sociology. in the international arena.

The jury that awarded this prize was chaired by the President of the CIS, Félix Requena Santos, the former presidents of the institution Joaquín Arango Vila-Belda, Pilar del Castillo Vera and the professors of Sociology and Political Science: Rodolfo Gutiérrez Palacios, Francisco J. Llera Ramo, Juan Salcedo Martínez, and José Juan Toharia Cortés.
