93.3% of Spaniards believe that gender violence is "a worrying problem"

  • 49% assure that the demonstrations held on March 8 serve a lot or quite a lot “to strengthen demands for women's freedoms and equality rights.”
  • Regarding the current law against gender violence: 71.3% believe that more things should be done

Madrid, February 27, 2020 . On the occasion of International Women's Day on March 8, the CIS has asked about this question in the February barometer. The survey reveals that 93.3% of Spaniards believe that gender violence is "a worrying problem" for society , while only 4.1% say that it is not a problem.

To the question: Do you think that the demonstrations held on March 8 are serving a lot, quite a bit, little or not at all to strengthen the demands for women's freedoms and equality rights? 49% believe "that they are serving "a lot or quite a lot." (Sum of those who believe that "they are serving enough", 33.8%, and those who think that "they are serving a lot", 15.2%). On the contrary, only 12.5% believe that they are of no use.

Furthermore, questions have been asked about whether the current law against gender violence is sufficient to confront this problem or more things should be done and 71.3% of people "believe that more things should be done." Only 11.6% believe that the current law is sufficient.

Regarding the measures that should be taken to improve the situation of women, Spaniards opt for "Toughen the laws / toughen penalties" with 28.7%, followed by "More education / Education in equality / Education for men" with 17%, and as a third option, there is "Greater protection for whistleblowers / greater police protection for women" with 11.6%.

Other information collected by this barometer is the rating of leaders in which Pedro Sánchez rises compared to the January barometer, going from 4.2 to 4.5 and continues to be the best rated, Pablo Casado rises from 3.3 to 3.7 in average grade, Santiago Abascal goes from 2.6 to 2.8 and Pablo Iglesias from 3.5 to 3.7.

Faced with the new Government, the predominant feelings are "Hope that they will achieve their objectives" with 44.2%, compared to those who have "fear of independence concessions and the worsening of things" with 37.7%. .
