Post-pandemic social and emotional relationships (III)

80% of Spaniards trust a relationship to the partner being involved in household chores

  • According to the latest survey carried out by the CIS, for 80% of citizens that the couple "not get involved in domestic tasks" is the most important aspect when starting a romantic relationship
  • 47.6% "strongly agree or agree" that a person can have "two or more emotional-sexual relationships at the same time"

Madrid, April 12, 2023 . The Center for Sociological Research has carried out a third survey on post-pandemic social and emotional relationships. It collects data on life as a couple, family relationships, ways of relating and happiness, among other issues.

In this study, citizens have been asked what aspects they give the most importance to when starting a relationship as a couple and for 80%, "not getting involved in household chores" is the most important thing, for 69.4% That "sexual relations are not satisfactory" is also another aspect to take into account. On the other hand, "their partner had less money" is an unimportant aspect for Spaniards (91.5%).

Fidelity and open relationships

47.6% "strongly agree or agree" that a person can have "two or more emotional-sexual relationships at the same time", however, 49.7% disagree with this statement.

78.5% of Spaniards "strongly agree or agree" that "if you truly love, you are always faithful to your partner", and for 41.4% "the members of a couple can agree to have sexual relations with other people outside the couple without there being a sentimental bond with them.

Regarding love online, 29.1% "strongly agree or agree" that you can be in love with a person you only know online.

Internet relationships

Regarding the use of the Internet and family ties, for 82.1% of citizens "new technologies have brought closer relatives with whom they do not live together", although for 81.2% the use of the Internet "causes people become more isolated." And 73.2% say that "the use of the Internet causes a decrease in communication in the family with whom they live."

Regarding the aspects that Spaniards highlight most about online romantic relationships compared to face-to-face relationships, they believe that they are "more superficial" (6.73) followed by the fact that they involve "more communication" (4.84). . On the other side of the scale, they think they are less affectionate (2.82) and imply less fidelity (2.89).

Another interesting fact from this survey is how happy Spaniards consider themselves to be with a score of 8.06 out of 10. Furthermore, citizens are satisfied with their family life, which they rate with a score of 8.63, their relationship with their partner (8. 55) and their friends (8.28).
