Edward Telles and Vilma Ortiz, professors of Sociology at the universities of Princeton and California, respectively, point to a series of institutional barriers, such as the poor functioning of the educational system and the persistence of discrimination, to explain why the integration of the younger generations and propose a series of measures that could reinvigorate this process.
A chance discovery triggers this innovative analysis in which it is shown that the economic and educational progress experienced by immigrants of Mexican origin in the US stagnates from the second generation onwards.
In his presentation, Antonio Izquierdo, professor of Sociology at the University of A Coruña and Director of the Sociology of International Migration Team, insists on the need to rethink the perspectives of integration and immigration policies in view of the discouraging results. of this intergenerational research. “It is a basic book in fields such as stratification, ethnicity and the comparative integration policies of immigrants and their children in Europe and the United States,” says Izquierdo.
